Run for your lives!

The castle's been overrun! The enemy is everywhere! To the secret passage, quick!

There is an audible series of clicks from the ancient switch and gears. Then the low rumbling of stone slowly grinding on stone.

To freedom! We must escape!

Mock Up

Well I couldn't help myself! Here is a mock up of the basement level. Only the floor and the first 2 layers of the outer wall have been glued so far. I highlighted the doors in red so you can better see what everything is. The green bricks are going to be iron bars separating the prison cells.

Below is another view showing the room layout. Each floor tile is 1" square for an idea of size. The hole in the rear is going to be a secret door which hasn't been constructed yet.

It has begun!

This blog is going to show the progress of the first castle I've always wanted to build. The castle will have 6 levels. It will be about 12" cubed and the base is just under a 2 foot square. Yes it actually began a week and a half ago. Making plaster bricks, bricks, and even more bricks.

The molds are from http://www.hirstarts.com/ an excellent tool for any budding castle builder. Mix up plaster, fill the molds, plaster dries, pop out cool looking bricks, build a castle! Here are the first shots of my progress for week 2.

Here it comes, bricks, bricks, bricks, eat sleep and drink plaster bricks. Or maybe just inhale some plaster dust, that can't be good for me. Keep your nose hairs long and always inhale through your nose!

Here is about 2/3 of the bricks I need for the first level. It's around 300-400 bricks! Dude! That's a lot of bricks!

Here's my stack of leftover bricks. I'm sure I'll find a use for all these somewhere. I already have preliminary sketches for the next castle...

Step 1, circular saw. Step 2, scroll saw. Step 3, Dremel with drum sander attachment. Step 4, router table with 1/4" roundover bit. Step 5, random orbit sander, smooth as a baby's but! Power tools are loads of fun, but remember safety first. You can't build castles with only 1 finger left.
Soon to come...The Great Castle-Building Blog begins!
